I've seen similar behaviour with my color qc when:
The ccd is saturated by light (outdoor daylight scenes without a
dark filter).
The qc is over heated. For instance if it is placed directly in
the sun and the temperature of the qc is above 40-50 degrees (centigrades).
When the parallel port is in UniDir mode.
